Instructions
- Prepare the chicken breasts: Carefully butterfly each chicken breast by slicing it horizontally almost through, then open it like a book to create a thinner, even layer suitable for stuffing.
- Layer the filling: Place one slice of ham and a generous portion of Swiss cheese onto one side of the butterflied chicken breast. Fold the chicken over to enclose the filling and gently press the edges to seal it well.
- Bread the chicken: Season the stuffed chicken with salt and pepper. Coat each breast evenly with flour, dip into beaten eggs, and then press into panko bread crumbs until fully covered with a thick, even crust.
- Cook to golden perfection: Heat butter or oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the breaded chicken breasts for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Optionally, transfer to a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 10 minutes to fully melt the cheese inside.
- Rest and serve: Let the cooked chicken rest for a few minutes to allow juices to redistribute and keep the filling from spilling. Slice lengthwise and serve as desired.
