  • Total Time: 4 hours (including chilling time)
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Cake Ingredients

  • 1 cup melted white German chocolate
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Cheesecake Center Ingredients

  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Coconut-Pecan Frosting Ingredients

  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded coconut
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cheesecake Center: In a bowl, beat softened cream cheese with sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  2. Bake the White German Chocolate Cake Layers: In a separate large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, melted white German chocolate, sour cream, eggs, softened butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined. Divide the batter evenly between greased cake pans. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let layers cool completely.
  3. Make the Classic Coconut-Pecan Frosting: In a saucepan over medium heat, simmer evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, butter, and vanilla extract, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and stir in shredded coconut and chopped pecans. Allow to cool slightly before frosting.
  4. Assemble the Cake: Place one cooled cake layer on a serving plate. Spread the cheesecake filling evenly over this layer. Top with the second cake layer. Generously spread the coconut-pecan frosting over the top and sides of the cake, covering fully for the traditional look and taste.
  5. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the assembled cake for at least several hours or overnight to allow the cheesecake center and frosting to set. This will enhance the flavors and make slicing easier.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients such as butter, cream cheese, and eggs for smooth batter and filling.
  • Do not overmix the cake batter to keep the texture light and tender.
  • Bake the cheesecake center gently to avoid cracks and ensure a creamy texture.
  • Use fresh shredded coconut and pecans for the best flavor and texture in the frosting.
  • Chill the cake before slicing to maintain clean cuts and preserve the cheesecake center’s integrity.
