Instructions
- Cook the Filling: Start by sautéing the chopped onion in a skillet over medium heat until translucent. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart, and cook until browned and no longer pink. Stir in the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and yellow mustard. Let the mixture simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavorful.
- Prepare the Cheese and Bread: While the filling simmers, slice the cheddar cheese and butter one side of each bread slice generously to ensure a golden, crispy crust when grilled.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Place one slice of bread, butter side down, on a clean skillet or griddle. Layer on slices of cheddar cheese, then spoon the sloppy joe filling evenly over the cheese. Add another layer of cheddar cheese on top of the filling to help bind the sandwich. Cover with the second bread slice, butter side up.
- Grill to Perfection: Cook the sandwich on medium to medium-low heat until the bread is a deep golden brown and crispy. Carefully flip the sandwich and cook the other side until the cheese is fully melted and the sandwich holds firmly together.
