Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning (blend of chili powder, cumin, paprika)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For Serving
- 8 soft flour or corn tortillas
- Diced tomatoes
- Shredded lettuce
- Shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or cotija)
- Avocado slices
- Sour cream
- Fresh cilantro (optional)
- Lime wedges (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients: Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic to ensure even cooking and full flavor release into the taco filling.
- Cook the Turkey: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground turkey, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until the turkey turns opaque and begins to brown evenly.
- Add Onions and Garlic: Stir in the chopped onions and garlic. Cook for about 3 to 4 minutes until onions become translucent and softened, infusing the filling with aromatic flavors.
- Season the Filling: Sprinkle taco seasoning, salt, and pepper over the turkey mixture. Add a splash of water if needed, then let it simmer for 5 minutes to allow the spices to deeply penetrate the turkey.
- Warm the Tortillas: Warm the tortillas briefly on a dry skillet or in the microwave until soft and pliable to prevent tearing during assembly.
- Assemble the Tacos: Spoon a generous amount of the turkey filling onto each tortilla. Top with your choice of diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, cheese, avocado slices, sour cream, and fresh cilantro. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Use fresh taco seasoning for the best flavor compared to pre-mixed packets with preservatives.
- Cook ground turkey just until opaque and tender to avoid dryness.
- Add a little water or broth when seasoning to keep the filling moist and flavorful.
- Warm tortillas just before serving to maintain softness and avoid cracking.
- Customize toppings with fresh and creamy options for contrasting textures and flavors.
