Main Ingredients
- 24 classic Oreo cookies (about 1 1/2 cups crushed)
- 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
- 12 oz (340 g) white chocolate or candy melts
Optional Ingredients
- Food coloring (oil-based or candy dye) for coloring the coating
- Sprinkles for decoration
- 1 tbsp peanut butter or almond butter (for variation)
- Flavored extracts such as mint or vanilla (a few drops)
- Mini crushed chocolate eggs (for mix-ins)
Instructions
- Crush the Oreos: Place Oreo cookies in a food processor or a sealable plastic bag and crush them until you have fine crumbs, forming the base texture and flavor for your truffles.
- Mix in the cream cheese: Transfer the crushed Oreos into a mixing bowl. Add softened cream cheese and mix thoroughly until you get a smooth, dough-like mixture that holds together well.
- Shape the truffles into egg shapes: Scoop small portions of the mixture and roll them between your hands to create oval egg shapes. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill for about 30 minutes to firm up.
- Prepare the candy coating: Melt white chocolate or candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between until smooth and silky. Add food coloring if desired to get festive pastel shades.
- Dip the truffles: Using a fork or dipping tool, coat each chilled egg truffle completely in the melted candy coating. Let excess drip off, then place back on parchment paper. Add sprinkles immediately if using before the coating sets.
- Let them set: Refrigerate the coated truffles for at least 15 minutes until the candy shell is firm and fully hardened. Once set, your Easter Oreo Egg Truffles are ready to enjoy!
Notes
- Use room temperature cream cheese for smooth mixing without lumps.
- Chill truffles before dipping to help coat set faster and prevent melting.
- Work quickly with candy melts as they can harden rapidly; reheat if needed.
- Keep your tools and workspace dry to avoid seizing the chocolate coating.
- Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator to maintain freshness.
