Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 500g Potato gnocchi (fresh preferred)
- 1 cup Heavy cream
- 1 cup Mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 small Onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Garnishes
- Fresh herbs (basil or parsley), chopped
Instructions
- Prepare the Gnocchi: Boil the potato gnocchi according to package instructions, usually a few minutes until they float to the surface. Drain well and set aside to keep fresh.
- Make the Creamy Sauce: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and finely chopped onion, sautéing until soft and fragrant. Pour in the heavy cream and bring it to a gentle simmer, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
- Combine Gnocchi with Cheese: Add shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan to the cream sauce, stirring until the cheeses melt completely and the sauce is smooth. Gently fold in the cooked gnocchi, ensuring every piece is coated with the creamy cheese sauce.
- Transfer and Bake: Pour the gnocchi mixture into a buttered baking dish. Sprinkle extra Parmesan and mozzarella cheese over the top for a golden crust. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, until bubbly and golden brown on top.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the baked gnocchi from the oven and sprinkle freshly chopped herbs and a crack of black pepper over the top. Serve hot and enjoy the creamy, crispy layers of flavor.
Notes
- Use fresh gnocchi if possible for a softer, more delicate texture.
- Do not overcook the gnocchi; boil just until they float to prevent mushiness after baking.
- Simmer the sauce gently and slowly to thicken without burning or curdling.
- Freshly grate cheeses for best melting and flavor.
- Let the dish rest for 5 minutes after baking to thicken slightly and ease serving.
