Ingredients
Chocolate
- Dark, milk, or white chocolate (quantity as needed for melting and coating)
Base Ingredients
- Biscuits or wafers (gluten-free options available)
Decorations and Flavors
- Sprinkles and edible decorations such as edible glitter, mini candy stars, holiday-themed sprinkles
- Green food coloring or matcha powder (a few drops or a pinch for coloring)
- Nut butters or cream fillings (to use as glue or layers, quantity as preferred)
- Optional add-ins: crushed almonds, walnuts, dried cranberries, orange zest, cinnamon powder, chili powder
Instructions
- Prepare Your Workspace: Line a flat surface or cookie sheet with parchment paper to place your chocolate trees once assembled. Organize all ingredients and tools for smooth workflow.
- Melt the Chocolate: Melt your choice of chocolate gently using a double boiler or microwave in short bursts, stirring frequently until smooth and glossy.
- Color and Flavor the Chocolate: Add green food coloring or matcha powder to the melted chocolate for a vibrant tree color. Blend in any spices or flavorings like cinnamon or chili if desired.
- Build the Trees Layer by Layer: Assemble the trees by dipping biscuits in chocolate, stacking wafers with layers of chocolate or nut butters, or spooning chocolate into silicone tree molds. Add edible decorations between layers or on top while the chocolate is still soft.
- Chill to Set: Place the assembled trees in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to fully harden the chocolate and set decorations.
- Add Finishing Touches: Once cooled, add extra sprinkles, dust with powdered sugar for a snowy effect, or drizzle with white chocolate to mimic frosting on the trees.
Notes
- Use high-quality chocolate for a richer flavor and better texture.
- Temper the chocolate to achieve a shiny finish and crisp snap.
- Allow each layer to set slightly before adding the next to preserve distinct tree shapes.
- Work quickly as chocolate sets fast, especially when decorating.
- Store finished chocolate trees in a cool, dry place away from heat and humidity.
