Ingredients
Vegetables
- Fresh or frozen spinach – 10 oz (about 280 g)
Cheeses
- Ricotta cheese – 1 cup (250 g)
- Mozzarella cheese, shredded – 1 cup (100 g)
- Parmesan cheese, freshly grated – 1/2 cup (50 g)
Seasonings and Others
- Garlic cloves, minced – 2
- Italian seasoning blend (oregano, basil, thyme) – 1 tsp
- Crushed red pepper flakes (optional) – 1/4 tsp
- Olive oil – 1 tbsp
- Salt – 1/2 tsp, to taste
- Black pepper – 1/4 tsp, to taste
- Breadcrumbs – 1/3 cup (35 g)
Instructions
- Prepare the Spinach: Wash fresh spinach thoroughly or thaw and drain frozen spinach, squeezing out excess moisture with a kitchen towel. Sauté the spinach in olive oil with minced garlic over medium heat until wilted and fragrant. Season lightly with salt and pepper, then remove from heat.
- Mix the Cheeses: In a large bowl, combine ricotta, shredded mozzarella, and freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Stir in Italian seasoning, crushed red pepper flakes if using, and a pinch of salt to create a flavorful cheese blend.
- Combine Spinach and Cheese Mixture: Fold the warm sautéed spinach gently into the cheese mixture, ensuring even distribution without breaking up the cheese clumps.
- Assemble the Bake: Transfer the spinach and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish and spread evenly. Sprinkle breadcrumbs evenly on top to add a crunchy contrast once baked.
- Bake to Perfection: Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown, bubbly, and inviting. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving for clean slices.
Notes
- Drain spinach thoroughly to prevent sogginess—use a clean kitchen towel to squeeze out excess water.
- Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for better melting and stronger flavor.
- Do not skip the breadcrumbs; they provide essential texture contrast.
- Allow the bake to rest after baking to set properly for neat slicing.
- Sprinkle fresh basil or parsley on top after baking for a fresh, vibrant finish.
