Ingredients
Scale
Proteins and Cheese
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Pasta and Vegetables
- 8 ounces egg noodles
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, drained
- Optional: pickle slices or relish, to taste
Sauces and Condiments
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon mustard
Seasonings
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Cook the Ground Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and brown the ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon until fully cooked with no pink remaining. Drain excess fat and set beef aside in the skillet.
- Sauté the Onions: Add the diced onions to the cooked beef in the skillet and sauté until soft and translucent, releasing their sweet aroma about 3-4 minutes.
- Mix the Sauce: In a bowl, combine ketchup, mustard, diced tomatoes, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to create a tangy, flavorful sauce.
- Cook the Noodles: Boil egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente, then drain thoroughly to prevent sogginess.
- Assemble the Casserole: In a large mixing bowl, gently combine the cooked beef and onions, sauce mixture, and drained noodles until evenly coated.
- Add Cheese and Bake: Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Notes
- Use freshly shredded cheddar cheese for better melt and texture.
- Drain cooked ground beef well to avoid excess grease in the casserole.
- Do not overcook noodles; al dente texture prevents mushiness after baking.
- Let the casserole rest for a few minutes after baking for easier serving.
- Add crunchy pickles on top before serving for texture contrast.
