Ingredients
Dough and Base
- Pre-made crescent roll dough (1 package)
- Melted butter (3 tablespoons)
Apple Cinnamon Filling
- Fresh apples, peeled, cored, and diced (2 medium, preferably Granny Smith)
- Lemon juice (1 tablespoon)
- Brown sugar (1/3 cup)
- Cinnamon powder (1 teaspoon)
- Optional nuts, chopped pecans or walnuts (1/4 cup)
Caramel Topping
- Caramel sauce (1/2 cup, store-bought or homemade, warmed)
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Peel, core, and finely dice the apples into small pieces. Toss them with lemon juice to prevent browning. Stir in brown sugar and cinnamon until well combined, then set aside.
- Roll Out the Dough: Lay the pre-made crescent roll dough flat on a clean surface. Press the perforations together to form one solid sheet. Spread melted butter evenly over the dough.
- Add the Filling: Evenly sprinkle the spiced apple mixture over the buttered dough. Add chopped nuts if using.
- Roll and Slice: Roll the dough tightly into a log starting from the longer edge. Slice the log into 1 to 1.5 inch thick individual rolls using a sharp knife.
- Bake to Golden Perfection: Place the rolls snugly in a greased baking dish with space to rise. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Drizzle with Caramel: Let the rolls cool slightly after baking, then generously drizzle warm caramel sauce on top.
Notes
- Use fresh apples to keep filling juicy and flavorful.
- Don’t overfill the rolls to ensure they hold together and bake evenly.
- Firmly press dough edges to prevent leaking during baking.
- Allow rolls to cool 5 minutes after baking before adding caramel to avoid melting it completely.
- Optional glaze: mix powdered sugar with a little milk for extra sweetness alongside caramel.
