Ingredients
Scale
Bread Bowl
- 1 sturdy round loaf of bread (sourdough or boule)
Pasta
- 8 ounces spaghetti pasta
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cups marinara sauce or meat sauce (meatless or with ground beef)
Toppings & Garnishes
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil or parsley leaves, chopped
- Extra virgin olive oil, for drizzling (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the bread bowls: Slice the tops off your bread loaves and carefully hollow out the centers, leaving enough thickness to hold the sauce and spaghetti without leaking.
- Cook the spaghetti: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook until al dente. Drain well and set aside to prevent excess water from making the bread soggy.
- Make the sauce: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté minced garlic and chopped onions until fragrant and translucent. Add your chosen marinara or meat sauce, then simmer for several minutes to blend flavors and thicken slightly.
- Combine pasta and sauce: Toss the cooked spaghetti in the warm sauce ensuring every strand is well coated.
- Assemble the bread bowl spaghetti: Fill each hollowed bread bowl generously with the saucy spaghetti. Top with grated Parmesan cheese and sprinkle fresh herbs on top for a bright, fresh finish. Optionally, drizzle a bit of extra virgin olive oil before serving.
Notes
- Choose dense, crusty bread like sourdough to prevent sogginess.
- Drain pasta thoroughly to avoid excess moisture.
- Lightly toast or bake the hollowed bread bowls before filling for added crispness.
- Add fresh herbs like basil or parsley just before serving to maintain their vibrant flavor.
- Serve immediately after assembling to enjoy the best texture and taste.
